West Weekly Wrap-up (W3) Report for start of Feb. of 2010
February 9, 2010Chamberlain then uttered the one word that would save the day at Gettysburg, turn the tide of the Civil War, and indeed perhaps, save our America: “Bayonets”! It was a word command never given by a Union Commander to that point, the spirit of the bayonet and the offensive initiative had always been with the Confederate forces…
I spoke of the same command because in surveying our country, the time has come to regain the initiative, to beat back the attack of the liberal progressives, and to inspire my fellow Americans at a time when men may wish to retreat. We must fight to rebuild our economy, encourage small businesses to grow, stand by workers and allow them to keep more of their hard earned pay. We must show the bayonet to our enemies who try to harm us and commit terrorist attacks. We must oppose the wasteful, corrupt governing of Nancy Pelosi and Ron Klein…
I say “Bayonets” to let us all remember the story of Little Round Top. Let us all remember the leadership and courage of Colonel Joshua L Chamberlain. Let us all remember that regardless of how bad it may seem, we don’t quit, we don’t retreat, we don’t surrender……..WE CHARGE! That is the American spirit, that is what we all must embody in this 2010 election cycle year.
Greetings everyone and I’m glad to be back to update everyone on our work towards victory in 2010.
There has been so much going on and as always, my humble appreciation for your support in our noble endeavor. We have conducted countless radio interview from as far away as California, the Rob Johnson Show, and Arizona, with Hugh Hewitt, to right back here in our South Florida area with Joyce Kaufman and Mike Meiber. And this week, I finally had the opportunity to meet Brian Kilmeade during a Fox and Friends segment live from the Super Bowl venue on the Monday morning following the big game.
Speaking of the Super Bowl, what a great game and congratulations to the “Who Dat?” Nation! The game demonstrated just how an aggressive coach can inspire a team to victory. The great thing about this Super Bowl Sunday, I was able to piggyback and announce that my 49th birthday was “Super Sunday”. Yes, I am a little older, and I pray, wiser.
This week, the National Republican Congressional Committee named me one of their 10 “Young Guns”, recognizing me as a top tier GOP Congressional candidate. I’m pleasantly amused that a gray haired, 49 year old, and retired 22 year Army combat veteran is referred to as a “Young Gun”. As they say, you are only as old as you feel and with all the wonderful support I’ve received from everyone, I feel like a 22 year old, full of energy and excited about our showdown with Nancy Pelosi’s pal Ron Klein. Coinciding with our “Young Gun” designation, we have received an endorsement from former US Congressman Dick Armey’s Freedom Works organization, which is most certainly quite an honor. All of this attention is great and is all due to the efforts of those who support our campaign. I’m only as successful as the people who work with me and believe in our cause and any recognition I receive is due to their hard work. For anyone new to the W3 or the campaign, I invite you to stop at our website to learn more, www.AllenWestforCongress.com. There you can read about our ideas, our campaign news and, if you’d like, sign up to volunteer or contribute to the campaign. Your help is always an inspiration and is appreciated more than you may every know.
Next week we shall head to Washington DC, where God has been having fun with this man-made “global warming climate change”, to attend the 2010 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). I have been given the opportunity to speak and can’t wait to speak about the principles and ideas that make this nation the greatest in the world. Our Congressional campaign is receiving so much attention because of you. My commitment to all of you is that I shall never grow tired nor weary in serving you.
One of the very humbling things that has happened recently for me is to hear about the phenomenal reception of the “Revolution” video on You Tube which is reaching 2 million hits. I just want to take the time to put that short video in context.
What I sought to achieve in that 6 minute speech was to connect the crowd, and now it seems America, to remembering who we are and that which created this great Republic. We must go back and learn our history and understand the writings of our Founding Fathers: the Declaration of Independence, Federalist Papers, and US Constitution. We are not and never have been a nation of victims, and that is what the liberal progressive agenda seeks to make us. They seek to make us victims, dependent upon an overreaching government which will dictate every aspect of our lives.
Our past, and our future, is about empowering the indomitable American spirit that is rooted in our liberty, not tyranny. The relentless attempts by Nancy Pelosi and Ron Klein to raise our taxes, waste our money and give terrorists “rights” have driven us to a sense of despair and almost desperation. I speak to all of you to never retreat, never surrender, never lose your faith in America and that for which it stands……that is why I spoke of the word “Bayonets”. Success is always determined by those willing to work hard and believe in themselves and America’s promise is welded to this ideal. History sides with those that encourage success rather than abide, excuse and coddle failure.
On the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, there stood a young Colonel of the 20th Maine Regiment, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. He was given the far flank position of the entire Union Army of the Potomac, a place called Little Round Top. Chamberlain was not a professional military man but rather a Professor of Rhetoric from Bowdoin College who answered the call to service… and he had survived a horrendous defeat at Fredericksburg.
On that hot July day in 1863, Chamberlain and his Maine Men withstood countless charges from the Confederate forces led by General John Bell Hood. As casualties mounted, water ran out, and so did ammunition. The men of the 20th Maine Regiment felt all was lost. Chamberlain knew that if he retreated, the entire Union Army would be encircled, destroyed, and there would be nothing to prevent General Robert E Lee and his Army of Northern Virginia from marching south to Washington DC.
Chamberlain then uttered the one word that would save the day at Gettysburg, turn the tide of the Civil War, and indeed perhaps, save our America: “Bayonets”! It was a word command never given by a Union Commander to that point, the spirit of the bayonet and the offensive initiative had always been with the Confederate forces.
We must oppose the wasteful, corrupt governing of Nancy Pelosi and Ron Klein. I’ve read the words, “Misfortunes tell us what fortune is.” The wasteful works of liberals like Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Ron Klein show us the misfortune that results when our nation supports them. Now we are reminded of what fortune, success and American values look like.
Steadfast and Loyal,
Allen
