West Calls for Balanced Budget Amendment

Chides Klein for “Political Hypocrisy”

Deerfield Beach, FL – 2/9/2010 – Republican Congressional candidate Allen West (FL-22) today called for a Constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget.

“Congress has not shown they can act responsibly spending our tax dollars. Our government must be held accountable,” West declared. “That’s why I’m supporting a Constitutional amendment for a balanced federal budget. We can no longer allow fiscal responsibility to be a politicized tool. The President has said Americans should live within their means. The federal government should also be mandated to do so.”

West has consistently called for reducing government spending. He noted his opponent, Democratic Congressman Ron Klein, voted to increase the debt limit last week by a record $1.9 trillion.

“Congressman Klein claims to be a ‘fiscal conservative’. But, he doesn’t even tell his constituents the truth about his own voting record. After casting a vote for a record budget deficit, Klein wrapped himself in so called “pay go” budget language. This is the height of political hypocrisy. Klein needs to come clean with south Florida voters,” West noted after reviewing last week’s activities in Congress.

Klein’s vote last week to support the debt limit increased the share of the debt per person by $6,157 to a total of $46,319.

“Ron Klein, Nancy Pelosi, and the Federal Government are addicted to spending our children’s money,” West said. “The first step to ending that addiction is to elect new leaders to represent us in Congress.”
